Hirschy VINEYARDS
Owned by John and Linda Hirschy, and producing wines that have developed a cult following, Hirschy Vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. The vineyard is on Willakenzie soil and planted north to south.
They have Block A with about 0.8 of an acre of Dijon 777 clone and 2.2 acres of Dijon 6678 clone. They also have Block D and some of Block L of Dijon 777, located in Wadenswil. These clones are famous for ripening a little earlier and give the wine a juicy mid-palate. We often see bright, rich, red cherry flavors here and little “kick” on the finish which we attribute to the slightly higher alcohol content. The alcohol is barely perceptible, however, as it is balanced by the characteristic richness of the wine.
Hirschy fans love this wine because it is so deep and complex.
